::::::: 2007 is over. thanks! some special things from 2007 in no order.

MAMMAL - lonesome.drifter CD/LP
-
this release by gary b. out of america's last great wasteland is probably the best thing that happened in beat driven crusty droney blissfulnoisemetal what have you in any year, not just 2007. the songwriting, yes! songwriting on this a "noise" release is that of a musical god, it is perfect in its holding back. it is loud exactly where it is needed to be loud and pummeling and it is crusty and melodically blissfull exactly where it needs to be melodic and blissful. the beats are sparse and right there exactly where they should be. the first hiss of this grabs you by your face with one hand, bully style, and gently lectures you about how rad music should be after joking off the grabbing you in the face like a jerk. perfect in every way.

SYNB - blanks CDr | MUCID.CUSPIDOR - plaid.metal.flannel CDr
-
i do not know where to begin. this music... the world of music contained here and throughout the world of ZZPOT meerk.puffy monstrosity.brinkman farfallalllarafarell booogenstein flubb.flubb a doo is the soundtrack to every piece of music that is stuck inside of my head and will not come out until i listen to these CDs and go... ah! there it is, that is it, perfect. these two discs and the collected works of the aforementioned aliases listed and unlisted and made up are all needed to be had, and studied and lived within and hugged and fed and shared with everyone that will sit still and bare witness to what it would sound like if god knew how to make bass farts and rock loops and snurf snurfs in all the best of ways. please, hunt mat's world out and share the mythology.

i once wrote, somewhere else of mucid cuspidor: "From Texas... originally.
Consider if there was a god for a moment. This is that thing, making music like only it can."
and on SYNB and Mr. Brinkman: "Total TSR-core. Born of a pizza parlor. Capital BBB.ass drones and glorious everything. Probably the best music you have ever heard, ever. Thank you electricity."

CTP [CHAOS THROUGH PROGRAMMING] - books about the internet CDr | zine
-
rasmus e. svensson putting "things" together in the best way possible ever. this is everything that is good about ALL worlds of music all mixed together seamlessly and all at the same time. borrowing and retooling samples from the fine worlds of coolio gabber journey justin timberlake that "mystery girl" song the in the heat of the night theme song used to make some of the most inspired and fun plop music ever. the opening track is kind of a toy indian-esque drone inspired midi jam with the most blissful lalala-ing ever... it is impossible to describe how good it is. rasmus is a pure person, very genuine and thoughtful about all that he does. CTP as an ever changing acronym my favorite and the most appropriate pertaining to my life was "COWARDLY TEENAGER PARADE", i was also a huge fan of "CAVE TACO PARTY", you get the idea.

the zine that accompanies the music is rasmus' other voice. he can be a quiet dude until you get to know him... he lets his heart come out "vocally" through these worlds. music and art stuff. his work is best summed up by a single quote "dude, you nailed it... his beard is holding a drink."

thank you rasmus. i can't wait to be close enough to you to sit for hours and talk about things not related to idiocy again soon. i am happy that you moved to københavn, it is a city where you can dominate your own anonymous universe... you mean a lot to me friend.

HATRED - LP
-
the first time i put this on all i could think of was italy's 'goblin' making a more dense and chaotic album after having been beaten into submission after they tried to riff on a melody. this is not melodyless, it just has that creepy crawly atmosphere of a goblin record only it is more, well more tuff. yeah, i said it, goblin is as far from tuff as i can imagine. this LP commanded me to listen to it over and over again until i knew where all the walls of sound would hit my fist pumping to the lull. i think it has a member of that band that journalists love to write about, nate young of wolf moniker'ed band that got the most "experimental" journalistic attention of 2007 and his special lady friend. if the music was not the most epic and dark and beautiful thing ever this record is worth hunting down just for the d. tyfus artwork freakout, 6.panel amazing screen of pure candy.

::::
RYE.RYE - everything i have heard thus far...
-
baltimore has its finger on some random pulse, i mean, click here :::WWWEB   for one second and you will see that nothing i can write at all will do this any justice. this is the best thing to happen to bass since, well since ever. i am going to do a 12" with her this year. i can not wait.

GROWING|THRONES|then i left in Malmö sweden sometime early in 2007
-
two things... growing made me dance, man was stuff shitty for me at that moment in history, but they made me dance. thrones pummeled me in all the right spots, pure epic fancy giant forest bear bass and everything the best ever and so loud it made me want to lie down. after joe's set, he went up to the front of the stage and coaxed the swedish crowd forward for the last band... the last band had a saxophone, i did not appreciate it. joe preston is a gift to humanity.

MOHA! - live at the ormolycka shop D.E.A.D. for now
-
no one was there, 10 people tops, no flyers were spread, we didn't even know the show was going on in the shop until that day when the guy who was booking it for them let us know. that was a bit of a bummer. we of the shop, dennis, david and i the former runners of that space together the two who are not "i" are still there killing it under the names deleted store and rundgång. we moved out all the furniture required for a show with drums and had this graffiti neighbor spraypaint a sign for the show. then it got dark. MoHa! from stavanger, norway are morten and anders (anders is in Noxagt and these two are 2/4 of Ultralyd when they are not MoHa!)

first, morten is seriously one of the, capital THE, most amazing drummers i have seen perform in ages, he is flippant, can i say that... he is fucked in the way that some more academic "jazz" or "free" drummers are, only he manages to first of all not be annoying at all like those "free-jazzy" drumers and keeps a crushing beat throughout the duration of his "freeness" or what have you. he kills it. so much. and he processes his drums using super collider, a good tool to look up if you like destroying things via sampled computer crunches and flim flams and pfllflsfllsssssts. anders plays a crappy keyboard, a baritone guitar, some drum machines and a huge head of hair as well as the sweetest smile this side of anywhere.

when you watch them you can feel how long they have been playing together, you can also feel that they really like to play with one another. it was amazing to witness, like being in their practice room for the past 15 years straight... so good. get their music recorded, all of it, every project they are involved in, it is a breath of pure fresh messy rad air. they played for about 30 minutes and it was so good.

here is some video from the end of the show:

::::
MOKNOK - slugstorm LP
-
music broken in just the right way. this is pop music, or at least to me it is. this is very special music. i can not say enough good about this release, it is playful and not on purpose and not dumb because of trying to be playful on purpose. it is just good and broken and kind of off but not in any aware or bad or silly way. it is just good pop or rock or disjointed songs where you can feel the members smiling at each other when the hooks come.

::::
ZA.FRUMI - chapter 3: shrak ishi za migul
-
this is probably the best thing ever. i kind of say that a lot, but i mean, i don't even know where to begin. this is the third chapter in the telling of Za Frumi. orcs. language consistent throughout all 3 chapters, story ever growing. music, really rad. like WHEN, early WHEN 'svartedaun' ambient soundscapes of slurps and grunts and orcs communicating. throwing meat around, jamming on orc insrtruments and making rad orc songs. there are i think 5 Za Frumi cds in all. i can highly recommend them all. this one just came out in 2007.

::::
SUNN.O))).&.BORIS - altar, (the sinking belle : blue sheep)
-
tracks 1 through to the track 'the sinking belle: blue sheep' are very low droney bass rumble chud chud chud what you would expect from both of these prolific projects. Only, one of the tracks has a notable Kim Thayil appearance, 'blood swamp'.

the sinking belle : blue sheep - sung by american songwriter jesse skyes in a crooked and damaged beautiful near whisper to me is the song that should have played in twin peaks fire walk with me prior to the bar rock of the jacques renault scene where he whispers 'my mind is as blank as a fart' into laura palmer's ear. i like julie cruise's voice a lot, but this song is pure bliss and better envokes probably what david lynch was looking for in her voice and for that scene, not to discredit mr. lynch this song just rules.

i have been told by the internet that there are three different versions of this track. one with white in the place of blue and another with black, i can not report on these two, as i have only heard the blue version. i bet they are good though.

::::
DAVID.LYNCH - catching the big fish
-
wisdom from one of the wisest. please if you are in the throes of an existential crisis or otherwise read this wisdom and meditate on it. david lynch is an amazing dude. that is all i have to say.

::::
C.F. - powr.mastrs
-
volume 1 of i think 6 or 9 or 413, you pick. hopefully it never ends. i really really like to live inside of christopher's world. this book is everything i ever thought of when i was a kid through now, only more fully realized. and more clear. this is what a story should be. please find it and read it. thank you dan n. and picturebox for putting out very important books for the past years, not just 2007.

EFTERKLANG - parades CD
-
i do not love every track on this cd, i do however love most of them and a few of them. a few of the tracks on this cd make me feel alive in a way that i have never felt alive before prior to hearing them. music that speaks volumes about what it means to smile.

::::
PISTOL.DISCO - radiation CD
-
i put this on in a really sad mood when i was given a copy by my friend rasmus who did the glorious artwork. i had heard these two many times prior to this listening... but when i put this on for the first time it hit me like i had never heard music before. it is happy music, done in a scratchy way, the kind of scratch that you can not wait to just itch and itch in a really good way. imagine if you could hear the sun rising and living throughout its day... i think this is what it would sound like.

::::
MOSS - Cthonic Rites CD/LP
-
this music is slow and wrong and grim and fearless. moss, aptly named start out slow and dim and they keep growing into whatever space you are listening to them in and they crush everything that is in that space and they totally do not even care man... this is what heavy means to me in music. this is what i want to hear when i hear someone say DOOM or whatever. this is slow heavy metal at its finest.

the artwork for this release is from santee, california, my hometown, a very special place and it was drawn with ink and with the most heart ever. justin bartlett, we are the robots, is a member of this ormolycka family by sharing art for synt.tofs... his artwork is indescribably amazing. wearetherobots

WILL.SMITH - whatever that movie was called a couple of months ago the legend one.
-
this movie should not have gone beyond its first 40 minutes...

i saw will smith's latest film towards the end of 2007, zombie apocalypse i think is the title. it ruled, for 40 minutes it ruled, the camera work was grim, totally mean to the viewer, kicking you in the face mean, the acting was powerful. it harkened back to the pre-independence day will smith that we all loved. the will smith that we still called the fresh prince, i still do call him that, you will never hear me call him william smith. the will smith that brought us 'nightmare on my street'.

as viewers we had no idea what was going on in this not-so-distant future where gas prices had comically risen to 9.45$ (not the $11.25 [wait that is assuming the U$ dollar retains value nearer to the canadian dollar] a liter i was hoping for in my metric vision of an american future) NO, a gallon, and the product placement, thanks ford mustang i think, i tried to forget but I CAN'T, it wasn't that blatant, i mean will smith just picked a cool car to car hunt in in this apocalyptic cityscape. 40 minutes of tense, awesome, vague zombie apocalypse unfolded and will smith had a bond with his rad german shepard. then he killed his dog after it became infected with zombie rabies from some crappy CGI zombie dogs (where the film should have ended, but didn't) it then turned into a steamy pile of crap. if you have time, watch the first 40 minutes of this re-telling of richard matheson's 1954? novel of the same name as the film, not zombie apocalypse. then walk out not infuriated but refreshed.

MY.PARENTS
-
hanging out with my parents for longer than 5 days in a row for the first time since i was probably 17 years old.  it was, well, it was completely wonderful. it was on hawaii first of all. hawaii is where they have now lived for the past 5 or 6 years. it was absolutely needed and amazing in every way to be close with my dad and mom.  thank you mom and dad for being the amazing people that you are. you have helped me and saved me and guided me in more ways than i could ever possibly put into words and express love to make you understand properly how much you have helped me.

::
